Tour to Germany (2007)
We left the rugby club at midnight On Tuesday 8th/Wednesday
9th May to travel to Stansted for an early flight to Karlsruhe-Baden,
and then boarded our coach for Heilbronn where we stayed for
a couple of days.
Our first official function was meeting the mayor of Heilbronn,
and we gave him a quick rendition of Aus Der Traube before
making our way to the market square for a short open air performance.
On the Friday we made our way to Satteldorf, where we were
greeted with a meal from our hosts, including the ceremonial
presentation of a pig's head to our musical director and vice
chairman. Thankfully they didn't have to bring them home!
On the Saturday we were accompanied by the mayor of Satteldorf
on a sightseeing trip around the town, then we went to the
town of Rothenburg, famous for it's castle. The night saw
us performing along with other choirs in the hall in the centre
of Satteldorf.
We had a nice early start on the Sunday morning, as we participated
in the local church service, singing the hymns (in a mixture
of English and German) and performing a few numbers for the
congregation. In the afternoon we took a trip to Langenburg.
The next day we travelled to Stuttgart, twinned with Cardiff.
The rest of the day was free. On the Tuesday we were given
a reception at the town hall, followed by a city tour. In
the evening we gave our final concert, with Chor-Art Stuttgart
in Bad Canstatt Town Hall.
