Tour to Italy, Switzerland and France (2006)
This was the choir's fortieth anniversary tour, "Birmingham
and Beyond"
We started out on Saturday 22nd April 2006, eventually leaving
the Rugby Club after posing for the cameras from the South
Wales Echo and waiting for a certain baritone to go home and
get his passport. We travelled to Birmingham, where we took
part in a concert in Symphony Hall to celebrate Canoldir Male
Choir's Fortieth Anniversary.
On the Sunday we travelled to Gatwick, then flew to Milan
where we spent a couple of enjoyable days sightseeing and
testing the local bars.
We had a spectacular journey across the Alps as we made our
way to Lausanne on the Tuesday, and made a visit to Geneva
on the Wednesday.
On Thursday we made our way to the small town of Le Brassus.
After a tour of the town and it's watch and clock museum,
we gave a concert with the local male choir in the church.
We were then treated to a wonderful meal, during which both
choirs took turns to entertain each other.
After lunch in the beautiful Annecy and a traffic jam in
Grenoble we reached our final destination of Chatte (in France)
on the Friday. The next day started early with an open air
performance in the market of St Marcellin, followed by a welcome
from the mayor. We had rehearsals in the afternoon, and in
the evening we performed in St Anthony's Abbey alongside four
other choirs.
On the Sunday we performed in Chatte itself, before enjoying
a fireworks display at the stadium, yet another meal, and
even more drink.
